The Dog Writers Association of America stands opposed to censorship of journalists. As a writing organization founded in 1935, we support the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
A free press has the duty and responsibility to report facts – without bias – in order to better inform the public about historical and present-day truths. We oppose censorship in all its forms, including attempts to suppress the work of journalists or banning them from press boxes or public events. We are grateful to live in a country founded on the ideals of free speech and support efforts to maintain this fundamental American right.
