The sold-out DWAA banquet and awards gala takes place on Sunday, February 9, 2020. With well over $14,000 in cash prizes to be given out, we are celebrating by shining the spotlight on our amazing sponsors.

Let’s shine the spotlight on Good News for Pets and Lea-Ann Germinder!

Tell us a little bit about your organization and what you do.

Goodnewsforpets.com and its digital platform curates pet and vet news and products of interest (primarily about dogs and cats) to highly involved pet owners, writers and individuals in the dog world, pet industry and veterinary profession.

The website was launched in 2000 with the Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA) as one of the first media sponsors. The goal was to help promote DWAA and dog writing. Lea-Ann Germinder, founder, editor and publisher has been a DWAA member since 2000. She has also been a frequent DWAA publicist, sponsor chair or sponsor since 2000.

Goodnewsforpets.com accepts some sponsored brand content but we also develop our own content. We try to give back to the dog-loving and dog-writing community when we can. As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we are proud to say several DWAA members have written for the site including DWAA Hall of Famer Steve Dale and past-presidents Mordecai Siegal, Ranny Green and Kim Thornton.

We’ve conducted dozens of interviews with DWAA members including presidents Jen Reeder and current president Carol Bryant. We’ve promoted DWAA books, we’ve run dog-related contests and often promote and donate to dog-related causes. We’ve even won several awards for the Goodnewsforpets.com site itself including a DWAA Certificate of Excellence.

We’re so thankful you sponsored a Special Award in the writing contest. Tell us more about the award and what it means.

The Goodnewsforpets.com Special Award recognizes the transformational role the digital space has played in dog writing. From a content perspective, we feel it is important to continue to stress how important the human-animal bond is to to both people and pets.

We sponsored this year’s award in celebration of the Goodnewsforpets.com’s 20th anniversary for the best digital story – online video, blog post or online article with photography that best demonstrates the bond between people and their canine companions. The content must be demonstrated as having been shared through digital media. We’re pleased this year’s winner will receive a $500 grant.
