The Basic Instinct

It felt sooo good to have a man in the house.

Cindy sighed with contented pleasure.  Life hadn't always been so sweet, but ever since she'd killed a man, it couldn't be better!

Allen should be home in another hour. If it wasn't for him, she’d be dead.

She and her old flame Harley started out well enough. They’d even moved in together. BIG MISTAKE.

The first time he hit her, Cindy was more surprised than hurt. After that, there was no doubt of the pain.  If only she'd met Harley’s friend Allen first.

Allen gave her hope.  When she shoved Harley in front of a transit bus, Allen drove Cindy home.  But there was a woman waiting.

Cindy moved closer to Allen when the woman snarled, "It’s either me or the dog."

Allen tousled Cindy’s silky hair. "She hasn't a mean bone in her body.”

The woman left.  Cindy remained “good girl” quiet as Allen drew her close and stroked her head.

"She'll come around, Cindy.  No one can resist you.”

Cindy noticed the woman descend the outside stairs, unsteady on her high heels.

That might come in handy.  Survival was, after all, the basic instinct.
